Move Your Self-Hosted Gitea to Gitea Cloud in a Few Clicks

Move Your Self-Hosted Gitea to Gitea Cloud in a Few Clicks
2 min read

We are excited to announce that Gitea Cloud can now migrate your repositories directly from a self-hosted Gitea instance.

If you run Gitea on your own server today, you can move to a fully managed instance and stop worrying about server maintenance, upgrades, and backups, without leaving your project history behind.

Migrate Entire Users and Organizations at Once

When creating a new migrator on Gitea Cloud, choose Self-hosted Gitea, enter the address of your instance and an access token, and list the users or organizations you want to bring over.

Gitea Cloud then discovers every repository they own that your token can access and migrates them in one batch, so there is no need to add repositories one by one.

Choose What Comes Along

Besides the Git data, you decide what else to migrate:

  • Wiki
  • Issues
  • Pull requests
  • Releases
  • Labels
  • Milestones

Comments, reactions, and pull request reviews come along with the issues and pull requests, release attachments with the releases, and Git LFS objects with the Git data.

Each repository keeps its owner name on Gitea Cloud. Repositories go into the user or organization of that name if it already exists on your instance; otherwise an organization is created for it, even when the owner is a personal account on your self-hosted Gitea. Migrated repositories start out private so you can review them before sharing.

Before You Start

  • Your self-hosted Gitea must run version 1.11 or later.
  • It must be reachable over HTTP or HTTPS from the internet.

Sign in to Gitea Cloud and create a migrator to get started. If you have any questions, contact us at support@gitea.com.

Thank you for your continued support!
